Accelerometer vs. Electromyogram in Activity Recognition
Activity recognition; Wearable sensor; Acceleration; Electromyogram; Unseen activities In this study, information from wearable sensors is used to recognize human activities. Commonly the approaches are based on accelerometer data while in this study the potential of electromyogram (EMG) signals in activity recognition is studied. The electromyogram data is used in two different scenarios: 1) r...
متن کاملImproving Accelerometer Based Activity Recognition
This paper presents the findings of a research on how to improve activity recognition from data captured with chest mounted accelerometer. Several methods were applied to achieve this purpose, including: simple smoothing technique, hidden Markov models (HMM), extraction of frequency domain features, principal component analysis (PCA) and dynamic time warping (DTW). The paper describes each of t...
متن کاملActivity Recognition from Accelerometer Data
Activity recognition fits within the bigger framework of context awareness. In this paper, we report on our efforts to recognize user activity from accelerometer data. Activity recognition is formulated as a classification problem. Performance of base-level classifiers and meta-level classifiers is compared. Plurality Voting is found to perform consistently well across different settings.
متن کاملPersonalised Online Activity Recognition with Smartphone Accelerometer
Mobile phone based activity recognition uses data obtained from embedded sensors to infer users physical activities. The traditional approach for activity recognition employs machine learning algorithms to learn from collected labelled data and induce a model. The model generation is usually performed offline on a server system and later deployed to the phone for activity recognition. This appr...
